The Race They Didn't Want To Run

Yesterday, I stood on a school field watching Sports Day.
There were races, cheers, proud parents and children giving it their all. But amongst all the excitement, I noticed something that stayed with me long after the winning stickers had been handed out.

I saw girls hesitating.
Not because they didn't want to run. Not because they weren't capable. But because they looked uncomfortable.
Some were tugging at their T-shirts. Some crossed their arms over their bodies. Others looked nervous before they even stepped up to the start line.
And suddenly, I was reminded exactly why hy. exists.
Around Years 4, 5 and 6, many girls start experiencing changes in their bodies. For some, it happens earlier than expected. For others, it happens gradually. They may not fully understand what's changing, but they know something feels different.
Running feels different.
Jumping feels different.
PE feels different.
The confidence they had when they were seven or eight years old can begin to disappear.
As adults, we understand what's happening. We know their bodies are growing exactly as they should. But for a young girl, it can feel confusing, uncomfortable and sometimes even embarrassing.
And that's quite heartbreaking in a sense.
Because no girl should feel held back from joining in, running a race or enjoying sport because she's worried about how her body feels when she moves.
Watching Sports Day yesterday made me realise something.
The problem isn't that girls don't want to be active.
The problem is that too many girls stop feeling comfortable enough to be active.

That's one of the reasons we created the hy. Girls Performance Sports Vest.
Not to make girls look older.
Not to make them change who they are.
But to help them feel supported, comfortable and confident while their bodies are changing.

Whether worn on its own or underneath a T-shirt, it provides gentle coverage and support exactly when many girls start needing it.
Because confidence doesn't come from being the fastest child on Sports Day.
Confidence comes from feeling comfortable enough to step up to the start line in the first place.
hy. was never just about activewear.
It's about helping girls stay connected to the things they love.
It's about removing small barriers before they become bigger ones.
It's about helping girls continue running, dancing, stretching, playing and competing without worrying about what their bodies are doing.
Yesterday reminded me that this matters more than ever.
Every girl deserves to feel comfortable in her own skin.
Every girl deserves to feel supported.
And every girl deserves the confidence to run her own race 🤍🤎
